Jupiter and Saturn

Jupiter and Saturn

I was watching the BBC documentary ‘The Planets’ last night. The episode was about Jupiter, the section that interested me was about how Jupiter probably stopped Ceres forming into a larger planet by hoovering up nearby space debris that would be used in the formation of Ceres. The current understanding is that Jupiter was originally closer to the sun, and was slowly being drawn towards our sun and clearing up debris. When Saturn formed, it had the effect of pulling Jupiter away from the sun due to it’s gravitational field, back to the edge of the asteroid belt.

When looking at the symbolism of Saturn,  stable, disciplined, pulling Jupiter back and keeping it in line, which stopped any interference with the inner planets forming. I thought it fitted rather well.
